2. Since most water softeners are salt based, you will have to pay for salt as well.

3. Water softening can only remove hard minerals from the water. It cannot purify the water if there are contaminants present in it. Even the softened water can be dangerous for health if it contains pollutants. 

4. If the presence of organic substances in the water creates a bad smell, water softening will not deal with it.

5. You will have to pay for additional plumbing. It is because the water softener is going to be installed near the water inlet. 

6. Soft water is not desirable for cooking in the long run because it may leach heavy metals from your appliances and pipelines.

7. There are some people who do not prefer the taste of soft water over hard water. It is because the soft water can taste very little salty.
