There are various types of clothing materials also called fabrics. Each one has different properties and used in different clothing. For example, the fabric used for a jacket is different than the one used in making cardigans. You have to choose your fabric very carefully by examining its properties and characteristics. 

Here is the list of the fabrics (other than fleece and down) with their properties: 

1. Cotton 

Cotton is a natural clothing material which is taken from the cotton plant. It is a very soothing clothing material and feels good to the skin. This clothing material adjusts to the environment. If it is hot, cotton will make you feel a little cool.

2. Silk 

Silk is one of the strongest natural fabrics in the world. It is soft and gives a luxurious look. It gives comfort in all weather conditions. This clothing material is mainly used in making expensive and luxurious dresses. It is produced by silkworms. It has a very soft touch and shiny appearance.

3. Wool 

Wool is a soft and strong clothing material which provides warmth. It is used in making sweaters. This fabric has the property of wicking away sweat from the body. It does not wrinkle and does not burn with the flame. This clothing material is lightweight and very durable. It is also used in making blankets and carpets as well.

4. Linen 

The linen is made from flax plant's fibers. It is taken through a long manufacturing process. That is why it is very durable and strong. It can also absorb moisture and water. This clothing material is also used in making sheet, towels, and dresses. 

5. Jute 

Jute is also a very strong and durable clothing material. Although it has been used in making bags for long. But now it is also being used in making dresses. 

6. Leather 

The leather is a luxurious clothing material. It is mostly used in making jackets. There are various clothing brands like North face which provide stylish leather jackets. The fabric itself is not affected by the temperature around. It has the quality of absorbing water vapors, and still maintaining its original shape.

7. Polyester 

Polyester is not found naturally, it has to be made. It has different types as well. For example, the infant North Face Denali is made from a material which is a type of polyester. It is made of fleece fabric.

11. Viscose 

Viscose is made from cellulose. It is very soft and used in making dresses. 

12. Denim 

Denim is a very widely used clothing material. It is used in making jeans. It has a vivid texture and feels very comfortable.
