I first thought all I needed to do was find a cool niche on AliExpress, advertise with social media channels, and the sales will start rolling in. But then I confronted with the harsh truth that no one wants to discuss: just because you drive traffic to your website doesn't mean you'll ever make a sale. It may sound crazy, but working with so many young entrepreneurs, I assure you that 90% of them have this 'easy' mentality.
Like any other traditional business owners, every new e-commerce business owner wants to know how to make first online sale. They wait for that first sale to happen after they set up their online shop. Every entrepreneur's journey comes to a halt at this stage. But don't get frustrated if you don't know how to make your first online sale. You just need to put in some effort into marketing like any other businesses out there.
Are you selling on Shopify, Instagram, Amazon, or any other website? I'll help you make your first sale if you want to know how to get first sale on Shopify or how to increase dropshipping sales. Just hang in with me and follow these simple tips to get success.
#1 Collaborate with Influencers
Nowadays, there are so many marketing channels by the blessing of social media that selling your products has become too easy! Influencer marketing is one of those new methods, as cynical as it sounds.
Target Audience
Target influencers who have a substantially large following. People want to be like them as they earned their confidence. If an influencer says they buy items from your online store, their followers will most likely click on the shared link and visit your store. So, find the right influencer who cross-matches with your product's target audience and send them an email for collaboration. If your product is legit, it's most likely that they won't turn you down.
Send a Sample for Free
It's important to choose the right influencer to who you will give your product. Look for influencers who are experts in your field. Investing in social media icons who has large audiences makes sense. However, they are most likely to get many emails like that. So, don't just stick to the emails. Send a sample for free to their address. That way, you're most likely to get a mention in their social media channels. Don't forget to attach a small letter with the product.
#2 Start Writing a Blog
Before starting your paid advertising, you're missing out on the infinite potential of content marketing if you still don't have a blog related to your products or services. Before selling your products and making a profit, you need to build faith in your brand. It makes sense, right? Would you buy from someone new to their field and also don't seem to know enough about what they're selling?
To build faith, you need to keep people updated by delivering free, useful content. Blogging also lets you post on social media, which improves your search engine ranking. Before starting a blog, research all of the common questions people have about your niche or the related industry. Visitors to the Shopify store, for example, are interested in learning more about e-commerce and dropshipping. So, they develop content that ranks for a keyword such as "how to dropship", "how to get first sale on Shopify", or "how to increase dropshipping sales".
You should also start your own blog to provide tips, tutorials, and tools related to your goods and the lifestyle associated with them. You'll begin to see the power of content marketing through social media shares, search engines, and other means if you can consistently build epic content.
#3 Offer a Giveaway
Who doesn't like giveaways? In fact, it's the only marketing strategy that succeeded on my first attempt at online marketing. I basically started a contest on the website for a chance to win a product from the store. I gave many entry requirements, including posting on social media, inviting friends, and more. The giveaway attracted a large number of people, and my website traffic skyrocket in just 3 days!
I chose a winner after one week. I also sent out emails to the runner-ups with a $5 gift card to my shop. Believe me, this tip can result in extraordinary conversion! However, you must first ensure that the product price is high enough that the gift card can generate a profit. Also, make sure that people can't use your gift card to get free stuff, which might put you out of business. However, if you want to invest in some aggressive marketing, just go ahead!
#4 Post on Buy & Sell Groups
Don't underestimate Facebook groups to make your first sale. First, find related groups to your niche on Facebook. If you sell fashion items, type keywords like "fashion buy and sell groups" into your search bar. Many of my dropshipper buddies have sold their first goods through these groups. In fact, you may sometimes end up buying from those groups! These groups show great results because most people enter these groups with the genuine intention of purchasing or selling anything.
If you want to sell on niche Facebook groups, you can try out that too. These niche groups are more of a fans' group than a conventional buy and sell group. For examples, if you want to sell something that BTS band members use, you can sell them on BTS fan groups. As they have a large fan base, there are many groups out there. But check first if they permit selling products! You can also provide the link to your store to order directly from the product page.
#5 Paid advertising: Investing Money to Earn Money
I know this is what you were waiting for. I have kept this on the last intentionally. You shouldn't try out paid advertising from the beginning. Your online store (website) may have some problems, or you may not just have the right products that people want. By following the first four steps, even if you don't make your first sale, you'll at least figure out who is your target audience and what they want!
Paid ads are the fastest way to quickly get targeted traffic. The good news is that you can start with a budget of as little as $10 and observe if it's doing well! However, each advertising platform is unique, and you need to choose based on who you're trying to reach and how the tools allow you to do so. But as I have told you earlier, fill your online shop and related pages with many posts or blogs before starting paid social media marketing. When people come, they won't avoid your shop.
Facebook Advertising
Facebook is the most famous social media site with over 2.5 billion active users. You'll also find most of your like-minded people there. You can select your target audience based on age, gender, job title, place, and interests to ensure that your ad reaches the right people.
Instagram Advertising
Due to the loss of reputation (privacy breach and data theft), Facebook uses among teens and millennials has decreased in the last few years. For young viewers, Instagram is now a very visually appealing platform. It performs well in engagement.
Instagram is the site to use if your goods have a visual appeal and you're targeting a younger audience. Using the right hashtags on your posts will also help you reach out as a free way to improve brand awareness.
Pinterest Promotion
Pinterest is often overlooked in marketing textbooks. Pinterest's user base is predominantly female who has disposable income. Pinterest is a place for creative minds to showcase their talent and gather and refine ideas over time using an online scrapbook approach. Post content that appeals to this niche audience to increase traffic to your blog.
Wrapping Up
Before starting marketing, remember your product itself needs to be good. Otherwise, you may get your first sale using these 5 steps, but all of these may end up in vain with just one bad review. Also, invest in your website to improve quality and making it faster.
Don't stop after just making your first sale. Once you get your first profit, use the momentum and continue to look for new and better ways to increase revenue and build an everlasting online shop. So, what are you waiting for? Start marketing your product right away using these marketing blueprints.
