Drones have become one of the most prominent tools in the
modern surveillance industry. Although they have not been used for quite some
time, there are several mapping companies that are using them now. Drones can
make aerial drone mapping and photography
much faster and easier than it has ever been before. Although it takes some
training and experience to fly a UAV or remote control helicopter, once you
have done it you will find that it is actually quite simple and not at all
difficult.
The two main uses of drone mapping companies are aerial photography and research and development
(R&D). They will usually send one of their engineers to your location to
take photographs, but they can also process the images later with computer
algorithms and photogrammetry. They then use this information to map out the
areas of your land that is suitable for housing, farming, wildlife conservation
and other areas. They will use the photogrammetry data processing software to
create 3D maps of your land. They will be able to tell how many trees you
should plant, where to place fencing, what can and cannot be planted, and other
important decisions based on your chosen areas of specialization and where the
majority of your local population lives
There are currently twelve drone mapping companies in the
United States. These companies work in areas such as agriculture, forestry,
environmental protection, emergency services, construction, tracking and
surveying, and wildlife management. The United States has the highest number of
private contractors using these programs to complete projects for real-time
monitoring in over thirteen countries around the world.
When choosing which drone mapping company you want to hire
you will need to choose between a global provider and an area provider. A
global provider will fly your UAVs over a designated number of countries and
will then provide you with imagery for each country. Area providers typically
fly over a smaller number of countries and will only provide imagery for
designated areas. The United States Federal Aviation Administration has
published regulations that must be followed when outfitting your UAVs for
aerial photography. The United States is not one of the twelve countries listed
in the United Nations Real Time Information Technology (RIT) Standard.
In order to comply with the regulations, it is recommended
that you seek out and hire a provider that is certified by the United Nations.
This will ensure that your UAVs are operating within the confines set forth by
the organization. Orthomosaics is a term that is used to describe the mapping
and research of drone maps. Orthomosaics is also the term that is used for
determining the boundaries of designated areas.
The most popularly used by drone mapping companies is the
subscription model. This is the model in which you pay for a monthly
subscription and agree to a long-term agreement with which they map your land
for you on an annual basis. There are drawbacks to this model but it is the
model that most people go with. With a subscription model you have no
flexibility or control over where the mapping takes place. The company that you
hire will determine where the mapping takes place and what area's within those
designated areas that are covered.
The fixed-wing or remote-control UAVs allow you to move them
virtually anywhere. They can fly as high as 100 feet and can remain in one
place for days on end conducting research without your assistance. The mapping
companies that operate these UAVs are able to determine which areas are in need
of drone photography during their operational hours. You have the choice
between a fixed-wing UAV or a remote-control UAV but most companies prefer to
work with the fixed-wing UAV because it is more stable and easy to use.
