In my travels I've discovered that one of the best places to get Calzones (which is also referred to as Mexican White Chocolates) is right in Mexico itself. My first encounter was at the Santa Fe de Calzones stand on the corner of the main plaza in old Mexico. Santa Fe has been making chocolate from seeds for many years, so it stands to reason they would be selling this rich, dark chocolate at their stall. While standing in line with hundreds of other devotees, I managed to snap a photograph of this unique and intriguing candy.
Calzones are usually very small, probably about the size of
BB. They vary greatly in size from very small beans, all the way up to the size
of a golf ball. And they are wrapped in cornmeal paper. I have also seen them
being sold in pieces, but it is more likely that you would buy them as a single
piece. Either way, it is definitely worth it to try a single bite of something
so different.
My friend and I purchased these at the gift shop in our
hotel. I couldn't bring myself to leave them behind, even though we were only
staying for two nights. I would imagine they are sold in much the same manner
in most hotels and restaurants in Mexico. Once I got home, I tried to recreate
the experience by searching for "where to get Calzones near me in Mexico" on Google. Surprisingly, there were
quite a few options.
One of the first sites that came up was the "onelipe
website". This is actually a real place, albeit one with very strange
tasting food! There are several dishes, although it seems they are mainly
consisting of meat. I think next time I will try one of their soups, although I
am not sure how I will feel about having food with a skull in it.
Another option is to find an online retailer. These are
probably the best way to go, because they are very easy to find. The only
downside is that prices can be a little pricey. I know, compared to other items
and drinks, but still. For me, I'm willing to forgive the steep price, because
I find the authentic taste to be exquisite.
Another place that was recommended to me is "Paid to
Click". This is a website that allows you to enter your zip code, and then
places you near lots of different retailers that offer Calzones. You are then
sent to their sites where you can browse and choose the ones you want. It is
super easy to use, and they also offer a list of other items you can find near
you.
Last, but not least, the best place I found to look for
Calzones was through a travel agent. If you live near any of Mexico's Caribbean
coastlines, you should definitely see what is available. There are so many
different types of Calsun that it's hard to describe them all. Your travel
agent should be able to narrow it down for you, and then you can look at the
beach towns that have a special store that sells Calsun.
As a final note, be prepared to do a little bit of walking.
Not only will you get dirty, but it will be a fun little sightseeing trip. So
if you have time, make sure you're out there. Good luck! Have a great holiday!
Calsun!
Where to order Calzones near me in Mexico? It has changed over the years. Years ago, it
was near the Hotel Zone. The area is now quaint and a little bit off the beaten
path. This is still the best area to buy Calzones in for price and space. I
recommend it!
Another thing I did a while back when planning a vacation to
Cancun was to search for a good Cancun bargain. I had already been to Cancun
many times, and knew which gift shops were the best to shop at. I did some
searching and found several gift shops that had items for low prices. I
purchased a couple bottles of Calzones from each shop. I highly recommend this
option if you are planning a trip to Cancun and would like to purchase some
delicious Calzones.
Now that you know a little more about the Calzones you can
find in Cancun. My two favorite shops are located in Zona Romantica, just north
of the Maya District. I highly recommend both shops and believe that you should
try them both. If you do not find your type of Calzone near these two shops
don't worry they are very close together. The other shop I highly recommend is
called La Gran Plaza and is located in the area of Puerto Morelos.
